AMPed Up Super Saturday
Updated: May 19, 2019
Saturday November 4th, saw the Queen’s Gaels host 4 games at the Athletics and
Recreation Centre. The women’s and men’s volleyball and basketball teams were hosting home games which made for an action-packed Saturday at the ARC. This Super Saturday was highlighted by not only the work that our Gaels were doing on the hardwood that day, but also by the work they have been doing in the community.
This month’s AMPed up super Saturday made the Gael’s game day accessible to all those
involved with A.M.P. The 6 pm women’s basketball game was made accessible for the children involved in the program. Providing a sensory safe room and a sports zone was important in ensuring a fun-filled day for the kids. Collaboration with the Queen’s Varsity Leadership Council (VLC) made this positive family experience possible, providing tickets for families and facilitating a meet and greet with the women’s basketball team for the children after the game.
All the players involved in the home games sported Light Blue Autism Mentorship
Program warm up shirts which matched the ones that were made available to the children and A.M.P. mentors. The night was a positive experience for the families involved that provided them with memories and a fun family night at the game.
