Learn to Play
At the Autism Mentorship Program, we have had to innovate and change how our program works to abide by the recent government and Public Health guidelines related to the pandemic. As you are aware, A.M.P. will not be hosting the 1-on-1 mentorship aspect of the program, instead we have transitioned online to connect with our program members through accessible and interactive video content.
The Autism Mentorship Program’s Learn to Play Video Series consists of 30 separate episodes which feature a Queen’s varsity student-athlete explaining and performing exercises, skills, drills, or activities related to their sport to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. With the help of Queen’s Athletics and the Queen’s Varsity Leadership Council, A.M.P. was able to recruit over 30 athletes from across 6 different teams within Queen’s Athletics to bring the video series to fruition!
The Learn to Play Video Series presents an exciting opportunity for families to bring our student-athlete volunteers in their living rooms or onto their screens to introduce them to accessible and fun exercises or drills to promote a healthy lifestyle and improved motor skill development. The video’s will also feature an educational component for family members interested in learning about the motor skill impacts and benefits of the movements covered in the episodes. In addition to the video series, members of the A.M.P. community will also be provided with an accompanying video series care package which includes all the necessary equipment to participate and enjoy these all 30 of the drills, skills, and activities featured in the video series from home.
Each week the A.M.P. will be releasing three new episodes of the Learn to Play video series begining February 1st, 2021. You can find the video’s through our facebook, website, and youtube channel. Make sure to give the activities a try. We also encourage you to share your best attempts with us each week. We can’t wait to see everyone get moving with the Autism Mentorship Program’s learn to play video series in 2021!
